About the Zanzu-project

Immigrants who are relatively new to Norway, such as migrant workers and refugees may lack necessary language skills and knowledge about the Norwegian society and health care system.

Access to information about sexual and reproductive health and rights may be limited in their countries of origin, and often not a part of the school curriculum. This may cause concern and uncertainty.

Central to the Norwegian strategy for sexual health is increasing the level of health literacy to maintain, protect and improve sexual and reproductive health in all population-groups. Zanzu's objective is to offer comprehensive and easily accessible information about sexual and reproductive health and rights for the immigrant population. The intended outcome is to increase our readers sexual health efficacy, sexual autonomy, health and wellbeing.

The webservice was first developed by German health authorities in co-operation with the Belgian non-profit NGO Sensoa, and is supported by a national and international advisory council including representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO). The Norwegian Directorate of Health has adapted the contents to fit the Norwegian society and health care system as well as developing the Norwegian version of the website.

Zanzu – an overview

Zanzu offers basic and accessible information on sexual and reproductive health in 7 languages, thus enabling readers to address these issues, i.e. in a counselling situation. Zanzu offers persons recently immigrated to Norway a discrete and direct access to knowledge on topics such as the body, family planning and pregnancy, contraceptionrelationships and emotions, hiv and sexually transmittable infections and sexuality, and information on relevant rights and regulations in Norway. Zanzu may also be used as a concrete tool for healthcare providers to address sexual and reproductive health among patients with a migration background.

Currently we offer information in these languages:
